The Green List:
Support the Environment and Learn About Native America
Go Native America is the premier source of tours rich with culture and education to the heart of Native America. A small-group and custom tour operator based in Billings, Montana, Go Native America has opened doors to a world few have access to through relationships with local tribal people.  Go Native America is committed to sustainable travel, evident even at the booking stage.  To curtail paper usage, all travel information is provided on their website in PDF format, making possible the use of only one A4 size sheet of paper during the reservation process.  Dedicated to recycling and conserving the world’s resources, Go Native America only uses eco-friendly products in their offices, including recycled paper and refillable ink cartridges.  It is also company policy to use hotels that conserve and recycle water, and to purchase tour provisions from local sources including farmers markets. Upon sign up, tour members are supplied with information on how to minimize their environmental impact.  This includes facts on the dangers of wildfires and the ease at which they can be started.  Visitors are proscribed from littering and are asked to respect all U.S., State and National Park laws regarding wildlife and the ecosystem.  Relaxing in the heart of Indian country, a place where time has little consequence, learning and experiencing the reality of Indian Country culture and history - that is Go Native America’s idea of a vacation to remember.  To create platforms of self-definition for Native people, bring awareness to Native issues, all while protecting the environment—that is Go Native America’s heart-felt mission.

Family Adventures:
Native Edventure Trails - a brand new Go Native America experience for 2009
Newly crafted especially for families who still want to travel, learn and experience new things together despite the current climate of tightening budgets! These unique Native Edventure Trails offer a fun and independent way for kids and families to explore, absorb and learn from Native culture, history and sites. Each specially devised program follows a planned, flexible route and participants must visit at least three out of five listed stops. Native Edventure Trails are designed to be completed in one day, but participants can take as long as they like.
Carrying a downloadable booklet containing cultural interpretation for age appropriate levels (4-7yrs, 8-12yrs & 13–16 yrs) the whole family can access the real world of Native America through scavenger hunt-style activities, quizzes and tasks. When the requirements are completed, participants take their booklet to the finishing point where it will be checked by a tribal representative and kids can receive their prize award.
All participants need: a Native Edventure Trails booklet, digital camera & an enquiring mind.

The solo flute melody is unequivocally relaxing.  The golden rays of the sun illuminate the chief’s headdress.  For those curious about Native Americans and their lifestyle but unsure how to learn more about it, Go Native America is the perfect solution.  With Go Native America, visitors are introduced to life on Indian reservations where they can learn about the rituals and etiquette of Native American people.  Indigenous guides lead guests to significant historical and cultural sites and present accurate and fair portrayals of Native American life.  Guides also encourage visitor interaction and awareness for Native issues.

Go Native America was in the vanguard of initiating Tribal tourism on the Northern Plains.  We offer guided tours from a day up to two weeks in duration.  One-day tours are for those that simply want to "dip" into Native American culture.  Longer, scheduled tours include historical and cultural tours up to 14 days.  Historical tours, such as Lakota Moon, allow guests to follow the culture and history of the Lakota people through great leaders such as Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Crazy Horse.

It is Go Native America's policy to operate in an environmentally-friendly fashion with the utmost respect for the Native American community.  They employ only Indigenous people as guides and tour members stay in tribally owned accommodations.  In an effort to support the local, tribal economy, tour guides ensure that guests have the opportunity to purchase arts and crafts directly from the Native American people and tour vehicles are filled with gasoline from stations on the reservation.  In these ways and many more, Go Native America applies a fair trade philosophy and "green" policies.  By simply traveling with them, guests are making a contribution to Native American communities.

How Go Native America Came To Be...

Serle Chapman, head guide of Go Native America, wrote a book about the culture and history of Native America.  As a result of this, his first book, he began receiving calls from people that wanted to visit the places he had written about and meet the Native American people he spoke to.   But the inaccessibility and lack of tribal connections prevented visitors from truly experiencing Indian Country.  With no experience, Chapman put together a small group of people to spend two weeks with him in Native America.  Six out of nine of those people wanted to do it again the same year.  Hence in 1995, Go Native America was born and Go Native America continues to grow as the number of people interested in Native America continues to swell.  For those people, Go Native America is the perfect resource.
